Britain's wildlife needs us

In the UK, climate change and the destruction of habitats poses a major threat to birds and small animals.  We are committed to raising awareness about these issues.  Between 1979 and 2012, bird populations have fallen dramatically:

·         Starlings have declined 80%

·         House sparrow numbers have fallen 58%

·         Robins have decreased 32%

Shelter and food is scarce for many species in the Winter months.  Spring and Summer can be equally challenging as birds struggle to find safe places to nest and rear their young.

We believe that home owners can make a big difference to dwindling populations.  Private gardens in the UK cover approximately 270,000 hectares.  This can provide a much needed haven for birds, hedgehogs, rabbits, squirrels, bats.

By encouraging animals into our gardens, we can make a real difference.  Our nest boxes and feeders provide a safe habitat for birds and bats.  But there are lots more ways to help, such as introducing certain plants or water - read the BBC's guide.
